# About Harbyn

Markdown version of <https://harbyn.com/about>.

Who makes Harbyn, what it does, and the rules it is built on.

## What Harbyn is

Software breaks when something it depends on but does not control changes: a model is retired, an API version is switched off, an endpoint is removed, an SDK ships a breaking release. Vendors announce these changes on their own changelogs and deprecation pages, and the announcement is easy to miss.

Harbyn reads those announcements and keeps a public, signed feed of dated changes, each linked to the vendor's own page. Its scanner matches the feed against your code and shows the file and line each change affects, the deadline and the replacement the vendor names. On the paid plans it also proposes the fix as a pull request that you review.

Today this edition follows 147 vendors, with 1944 recorded changes and 188 upcoming deadlines. Besides this English edition, the site has editions for Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Japan, China, Indonesia and India; the Brazilian edition also follows vendors of its own.

## Who is behind it

Harbyn is built and operated by **RC LABS LTDA**, a company registered in Brazil under CNPJ 67.664.885/0001-02, with its office at Rua Prefeito Hugo Cabral, 136, Sala 3, Centro, Londrina - PR, CEP 86020-110, Brazil. RC LABS LTDA is the publisher of this site and of the change feed, and the company you contract with when you create an account ([terms of service](https://harbyn.com/terms)).

## Your code stays with you

One rule shapes the whole product: **your source code never reaches Harbyn's servers.** Everything that reads code runs on your machine or your CI runner, in the open-source CLI and GitHub Action. A scan makes one network request, to download the signed change feed, and sends nothing about your code. There is no telemetry.

If you connect a repository to the dashboard and turn uploads on, the Action sends only feed terms and counts, never paths, lines or code, and prints the exact body in your job summary before sending it. Harbyn holds no write access to your repositories: fix pull requests are opened by your own workflow, and payments, authentication and cryptography code is never edited, only reported. The details are on the [security page](https://harbyn.com/security).

## How the feed is made

- Every change comes from the vendor's own sources: specs, release feeds, deprecation pages and changelogs.
- Structured sources are parsed without a model. Prose is read by a model whose answer must match a strict schema and the text of the page it read.
- High-impact changes wait in a review queue and are checked against the saved source before they are published.
- Every event keeps its source URL, when it was fetched and the SHA-256 of the snapshot, and the feed is signed with Ed25519 so the CLI can reject a tampered copy.
- Every event records the day it was published. A change recorded after its deadline is history, never presented as an advance warning.

## What is open source

The CLI and the GitHub Action are open source under the Apache License 2.0, at [github.com/harbyn/cli](https://github.com/harbyn/cli), so the part that runs next to your code can be read and checked. The change database, the pipeline that builds it and the paid fix engine are not open source; the feed they produce is public and free to read.

## Status

Harbyn is in beta. The CLI, the GitHub Action, the signed feed, the dashboard and the paid plans work today, and they are still changing. If something we publish is wrong, tell us at [support@harbyn.com](mailto:support@harbyn.com) and we correct the event for everyone. [Plans and pricing](https://harbyn.com/pricing).
