# Notion API Timed-out page writes return HTTP 504

The Update a page's content as markdown endpoint and the notion-update-page MCP tool now return HTTP 504 gateway\_timeout instead of HTTP 500 internal\_server\_error when a request runs past its deadline. A 504 does not mean the write was undone; check whether the change was saved before retrying. Writes that run out of their time budget still return HTTP 503 service\_unavailable with additional\_data.retry\_guidance.
