# Notion API Data source updates keep omitted descriptions and options

Updating a data source now changes the color of existing select, multi\_select, or status options instead of returning a validation\_error. Option names match existing options regardless of case, preserving the existing option and its ID. Omitting a property description now keeps the existing description, including when changing property type; send null to clear it. The same description rule applies to options. Omitting options from a select or multi\_select update now keeps the current options.
